System Benefits

Because of the new technology used in the JOURNEY PFJ system, this minimally invasive procedure is now an option for patients with knee arthritis that is isolated to the patellofemoral compartment of the knee. This minimally invasive procedure provides several potential benefits to patients who have an active lifestyle, are within normal weight ranges, and have arthritis that is confined to this single compartment

Potential Benefits Include:

  1. A 3 to 4-inch incision, compared to an 8 to 12-inch incision for total knee replacement
  2. Preservation of all ligaments of the knee, including substantial amounts of bone that would otherwise be removed during total knee replacement surgery
  3. Unlike total knee replacement and uni knee resurfacing, there is no removal of bone from your tibia (shin bone)
  4. Less blood loss than total knee replacement
  5. Decreased post-operative pain
  6. Reduced hospitalization time
  7. Reduced need for anesthesia and post-operative medication
  8. Faster rehab/recovery time (2-5 weeks, but may vary)
  9. Some patients are able to walk within 3-4 hours after surgery
  10. Better range of motion compared to total knee replacement
